Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 3, 2026
This policy explains what Shelfie collects about you, why, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors and to people with a Shelfie account.
On this page
1. Who is responsible
Shelfie is operated by Praise Nlemchukwu, Nigeria ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, email support@useshelfie.cc.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your email, your display name, and your password if you sign up with email. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Your shelf: the books you add, including title, author, pages, color, reading status, rating, cover, ISBN, notes, current page, description, category and dates. Also your chosen theme.
- Purchase status: whether you have the Founding plan, and a payment reference. We never see or store your card details.
- Technical data: like most websites, our hosting and service providers receive your IP address and device information when you use Shelfie.
3. Why we use it
- To run your account and your shelf, and to let you sign in (it's needed to provide the service).
- To keep Shelfie secure and fix problems (our legitimate interest in running a reliable service).
- To process your purchase and keep payment records (a legal obligation).
- To send you a welcome email when you sign up.
We do not sell your data, and we do not show ads.
5. Book search
When you search for a book, we look it up with Open Library and Google Books. If those don't find it, we may send only the title or ISBN you searched to a web search provider (Serper) and an AI service (Google Gemini) to find the book details. We do not send your name, email or account information to them.
6. Who receives your data
We use these services to run Shelfie:
- Supabase: accounts and database
- Google: sign-in, Google Books and Gemini
- Cloudflare Turnstile: spam protection when you sign up or sign in
- Resend: welcome emails
- Creem: payments (Creem is the seller of record)
- Serper: book search
- Open Library: book search and covers
- Google Fonts: page fonts
- Vercel: hosting
- PostHog: analytics, error tracking and session recordings (EU hosting)
Book covers load directly from other websites, so those sites can see your IP address when your browser fetches an image. We may also share information when the law requires it.
7. Cookies and browser storage
Shelfie stores data in your browser: a local copy of your books, a cache of recent searches and covers, your motion preference, your cookie choice, and your sign-in session. If you accept cookies, our analytics provider also stores a random visitor ID in your browser so we can recognize returning visitors. We do not use advertising cookies. Blocking this storage can stop sign-in and your shelf from working properly.
8. Analytics, errors and recordings
We use PostHog to understand how Shelfie is used and to find and fix problems. It records page views, a few actions such as adding a book or opening the upgrade screen, and technical errors. If you accept cookies, we also use session recordings, which replay what happens on screen so we can fix bugs. Text you type into fields is hidden and never recorded, and account settings and sign-in screens are not recorded. If you are signed in, this data is linked to your account ID, never to your email or name. If you decline, there are no cookies and no recordings. We do not sell this data.
9. Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in Settings. This removes your books, your shared shelf and your purchase record from our database. Creem keeps its own payment records, as required for its role as seller of record. Deleted data may remain recoverable in backups for a period determined by our hosting plan and backup settings.
10. Security
Traffic to Shelfie is encrypted, and access to our systems is limited. No service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
11. International processing
Our providers may process data in countries other than your own.
12. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data by emailing support@useshelfie.cc. We handle personal data in line with the data protection laws that apply to you.
13. Children and updates
Shelfie is for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it. If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app or by email.
